Ending the School Year Strong

I just realized it's almost March. MARCH! 2011 is flying by.
And while we're schooling year round, we will be finishing up certain books by summer break so the school year will still feel like it has an end.

With that in mind I want to finish strong.

We've been in homeschool funk lately. No field trips, some productive days, some days spent chasing out tails. Not much fun. We've just been getting by.

I'm ready to break out of this winter slump and beat the homeschool blahs with a stick. A big stick. A big, spiky stick!

In order to do that I'm setting a few goals to help finish the school year strong.

  1. Take at least one field trip a month.

  2. Laugh every day.

  3. Get back outside, move around!

  4. Take more photos, record the memories.

How about you? Are you in a slump? Do you have any goals to help you finish strong?

  1. Oh, yes, we're in a funk. I was just sitting here wondering how I can get my old interested self back. It seems like all the sparkle just went out of life over the winter. Too many cooped up days and runny noses, I guess.

I'm definitely changing up the routine with some field trips, and I have to get serious about closing my laptop before breakfast--not after. I've been sucked in way too often lately. Here's to Spring, and new beginnings, and all that jazz. :0)

  3. We are in a terrible slump. We need some field trips badly! And we always seem to finish with a whimper rather than a bang. I am not sure how to change that. We school year-round but have a deadline of June 30 to turn in portfolios. But once we hit 180 days it's hard to keep moving.

  5. Definitely in a funk especially since my hubby was suppose to take next week off and his boss revoked his vacation due to work issues. Gotta to get thinking about something fun to do to get me and the kids out of this blah feeling.

  6. I just was fishing something out of our classroom closet and I saw some of the books we have already finished this year (even if they were just used for supplement) It made me stop & realize just how much we have covered. As we wind down our 3rd quarter I think I will try to figure out a way to show the kids just how much we have learned. Show them how much they have accomplished this year. Use it as a little 4th quarter - in to the final stretch - motivation.

  7. Ugh. We are not in a mere slump. We're in the miry clay! Distraction after sickness after house guest after distraction after sickness. It's getting ridiculous. Really. NEVER been this bad before. I'm determined that NEXT week will be better. Right. That's the Mid-south HS Convention. Yeah. That'll work.

  8. We had last week off for a visit from my parents. Now were trying to get back into the swing of things. I sent the kids to bad today at 11 am. So I could recoup and hopefully they would shape up, then we never did restart school. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. Maybe I'll send them on a scavenger hunt outside to find 5 interesting things for them to write something about or use in a craft.
