Since Relevant I've been making devotional time a priority. I've been rising before the children. brewing a cup of tea and having devotional time in the quiet of morning. It's been lovely, and I feel more centered when I start the day this way.
Today was a little different. I missed my devotional time. I felt rushed and disjointed.
But God provides. I was blessed with a quiet hour this afternoon and I used it for my devotional time. However, instead of my usual cup of tea I indulged in a glass of rice milk and a few Double Stuf Oreos.
As I dipped my cookie and smiled over the sweet deliciousness to come I couldn't help but compare my devotional time to the Oreos.
While I truly sought God during my devotional time, I still looked at it as something I needed to do, something to be checked off my morning routine list.
When in fact devotional time should be considered an indulgence of my day. An ooey, gooey, sweet and satisfying time to be relished, looked forward to and smiled over.
It's dessert for my spirit. Dessert before breakfast! Who would turn that down?

Great thought! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYEAH! I LOVE my quiet/devotional time in the morning. If I don't take time for God first thing...I'm like you....disjointed the rest of the day! I love a cup of coffee...but a cup of tea is always good too! I think it's time for me to make some Russian tea (sweet lemon tea mixed with tang...yummy!) and spice it up a little! Thanks for this great post!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree! About 2 years ago, I finally found a time that worked for me, paired it with my one cup of coffee a day, and I can't believe how much I now look forward to it. I actually think about it the night before, looking forward to that time!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great attitude. I never looked at it that way before. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love it. That's the way I want to look at my devotional time! :)
ReplyDeleteLOVED this post. Gave me a new way to think about things. (Side Note - I hate GoogleReader cause I so often want to comment on things, but it takes so long to get to the blog from there that I often run out of free time and just comment in spirit.) :)
ReplyDeleteI love to indulge with a little treat during devotional time too!
ReplyDeleteI agree that our time with the Lord should be something we can't wait to get to---and then we should want to linger there...
Thank you for expressing this so eloquently!
