As homeschooling moms we spend a great deal of time telling our children how important writing is. But how often do we demonstrate its importance? If you're like me, the only handwriting you do is writing a check to pay the latest bill.
That's why, in an effort to set a good example for our children, and foster one-on-one connections among us, I'd like to organize a Homeschool Moms Pen Pal Group! Doesn't that sound fun?
Just send me the required information (below) and I will match you as best I can with another homeschool mom. I plan to match parents based on the age(s) or age range of current homeschooled children. If you would like to also be matched by a specific religious denomination (or lack thereof) feel free to let me know and I will do my best to honor that request, though I cannot promise that it will be possible.
Email the following information to talktocheryl (at) gmail (dot) com. Write PEN PAL in the subject line and send it no later than August 25th so you can start getting something besides bills in the mail!
Name
Address
Email Address
Ages of Children You're Currently Homeschooling
Specific Religious Denomination (optional)

I would love to do this, but I don't think we will have an address in time. We are still homeless, so to speak! LOL. Maybe next time...
ReplyDeleteWOW! I just came by to tell you thanks for the stop by my blog, and how I hope you get The Well-Planned Day, as I really enjoy using it and wind up finding this pen pal post. I am writing you an email now with my info! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteCan future homeschool mom's join in? My daughters are 2 1/2 and 16 months. Does that count as homeschooling?
ReplyDeleteI loved having pen pals when I was a kid, and honestly still love getting hand written letters in the mail now. This is a great idea Cheryl. Very awesome!
ReplyDeleteWhoa! Are you talking about actual letters written on paper? Not just blog comments? What a concept. Actually, it sounds like a nice idea. I'm not a good letter writer so I'll think about it and get back to you.
ReplyDeleteHisBelovded - I'll do my best. Hopefully I can find someone who only has preschoolers too. If not, I'll see if I can pair you with someone willing to fill a mentor role. I'd love for you to participate, but I also don't want to take away from anyone who is looking for a pen pal that is "in the trenches" with them :)
ReplyDeleteSent my info in!! This is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteHi I was just thinking the same that hisbeloved was thinking. I only homeschool part of the day for my 4& 5 yr old who attend school 21/2 hrs for special services. I think this is an awesome idea. I like to want on actual paper. thanks Im sendind an email.
ReplyDeleteMy son would love a pen pal. Is there anyone with a home schooling child about 10 years old that would be interested in pen paling with my son?
ReplyDeleteIf you have any extra penpals, I'm a grandmother of a two year old boy and I plan to homeschool him. All my homeschooled daughters are grown now (21, 21, and 20). cindy
ReplyDeleteScrapper - Currently, I'm only matching moms, sorry! But I believe Hip Homeschool Moms on Facebook are matching homeschoolers if you would like to try them :)
ReplyDeleteAnonymous - I will keep an eye out for a suitable match for you. :)
Scrapper, there is a yahoo group called Homeschool Pen Pal Exchange. If you do a search you'll find it. My kids have a couple of pen pals from there. It's a great group.
ReplyDeleteAnd I will be sending in my info shortly!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea! I love the idea of returning to the relationships that can be built through pen (or pencil) and paper. It would be encouraging to have a friend who knows where you're writing from. As an added incentive, it would be a perfect way to model to my children the need to write well and beautifully even in our very digital age. I will be sending you an email with my info (oh the irony) soon.
ReplyDeleteAna
I just emailed and I only have a preschooler. I think you are a homeschool mom as long as you know you will homeschool. :) I think homeschooling is a lifestyle that starts long before kids are in standard school age. :)
